COMMON QUERIES
How do I get my company name and product information into the barcode?
A barcode does not contain any secret information. The numbers below are displayed in a human readable format, but a barcode scanner must be able to read the lines in order to identify the numbers.
There will be a check-in procedure at every merchant, whether they are online or in a physical location. They will explain to you what information (such as the company name, product name, product description, barcode number, etc.) they need from you and how to give it to them. Once they have that data, they will enter it into their database at the point of sale. This is something that every retailer must do. That is what enables you to use the same barcode to purchase the same item from different stores.
Can someone tell where my product was made based on my barcode number?
No. The only thing you can tell is that the barcode number originated in which country
How many barcode codes should I purchase? (Not having labels produced; this is for purchasing barcode numbers.)
It depends on how many different products you have.
Different goods result in various variations
This means that if you alter the product's colour, size, scent, form, amount, design, style, etc., it becomes a separate product and needs a unique barcode number.
Example:
You need 25 separate barcode codes if you sell t-shirts in 5 different sizes and 5 different colours. (five sizes x five colours) Equals 25 barcodes.
You just need 25 barcodes if you have 100 of each size in each of the five colours because you will always utilise the same barcode number for all identical objects. It makes no difference if you have one, ten, or ten million of a product. You will always utilise the same barcode number on that product as long as it is identical (with no modifications). However, as soon as something is changed, it transforms into a new item and demands a new barcode.
Is GS1 a government organisation, or do they manage all barcodes?
The answer to both of those questions is no. GS1 is a company, just like we are. The difference is they are nonprofit and Speedy Barcodes is not. There is no government agency in charge of barcodes.
Is there a master database where I can enter my barcode and product information that way everyone in the world knows that those are my numbers, which of my products that they are on and how much they should be sold for?
Unfortunately, no. Although some people and businesses have made an attempt to launch databases, none are entirely accurate or comprehensive. All locations where you want to be found will require your barcode and product details.
What type of barcode is used for products ?
In India, the most used barcode format for retail goods is EAN-13. With the exception of two groups of products, all retail products have this 13-digit barcode:
1. Publications requiring ISBN and ISSN codes for books and magazines.
2. Medicines that demand Pharmacodes.
The EAN, formerly known as the "European Article Number," stands for "International Article Number." The 12 digit UPC-A is a superset of the EAN-13 (Universal Product Code). The most common format in use in the US is UPC-A. Both EAN-13 and UPC-A formats can be read by almost all retail barcode scanners in the world.
Why purchase from BarcodeNation?
There are a few alternatives available to you when buying barcodes. Basically, you can go straight to GS1, who charges upfront membership fees as well as annual subscription fees that start at about 40,000 INR per year (their cheapest rate). Following this, GS1 will only provide you with a prefix; it is up to you to hire a company from a different industry to create your product codes and barcode pictures. For the majority of small firms, this process can be pricey. If you've acquired barcodes from GS1 and need the matching images in any format, India Barcodes can produce them along with the OCRB human readable font.
The UCC (now known as GS1) originally issued all of our stock. We guarantee that the codes we supply are globally unique and are yours for life with no need for annual renewal fees. You will also notice some other competing businesses online. The level of service, customer support, quality of image generation and price varies between them all.
Will a barcode from BarcodeNation be guaranteed unique?
Yes, this is the guarantee. The UCC (now known as GS1) originally issued all of our barcodes. The codes we supply have never been assigned to a product. We run thorough checks on all of our stock before we sell it to our customers, ensuring that the barcodes are genuine and globally unique. Each package comes with a certificate to guarantee the barcodes’ authenticity and you as their designated owner, for life.
Will I have to pay an annual fee if I buy barcode from BarcodeNation?
BarcodeNation have acquired large numbers of GTINs and only charge you a one off fee. You will always retain ownership of barcodes you have purchased and they never accrue annual charges or fees in any form.
If you purchase GTINs from the Indian branch of GS1 you’re agreeing to payment of annual subscription fees. So if you only intend to acquire codes for just a few products the associated expenses when registering barcodes with GS1 India will grow over time.
The only organisation that charges an annual fee for barcodes is GS1 India. We advise caution if you come across a barcode retailer other than GS1 that tries to charge a subscription fee.
